Belay tests & certifications
How to get top-rope or lead belay certified at our gym.
Top-rope belay test
Free, ~20 minutes, by appointment at the front desk. You'll demo a complete belay sequence: tie-in, partner check, take/give slack, lower. We accept tested belayers from any AMGA-aligned gym — bring photo ID and we'll verify with a quick re-test.
Lead belay test
Lead belay test is $15 and 30 minutes. Prerequisite: top-rope certified at our gym for at least 30 days. You'll demo soft catches, climber-side and ground-side anchor management, and a clipping ladder.
Lead climber test
Lead climbing privileges require a separate climber test — see Lead climbing policy. The lead belay test alone does not allow you to lead climb.
Re-tests are free if you've been certified at our gym before but haven't climbed in 6+ months.
